I'm going to close the page early tonight with the sadness of having to say goodbye to our fospice dog Sloan.

Sloan came to our rescue nearly 2 years ago. she was a breeder dog living in outside dog runs in east Texas, no protection from heart worms and was very sick with them when she came to us. She was treated for them but the damage was done and her lungs were a mess because of it.

Danielle and Mike and their two daughters Maddie and Maiya have been fostering her all this time, but it was fostering in name only. They adored this sweet girl and she was theirs, Danielle said Sloan was her heart dog and she loved her so very much.
She was such a sick girl with her lungs having been ravaged by heart worms. She was never well enough for us to spay her, she was just too sick, her lungs were just too damaged, and she and could not survive the surgery.
We nearly lost her several times with her being rushed to the ER having to be placed in oxygen with pneumonia. We were so close to death with her on multiple occasions but we didn't give up and fought for her to stay. She had to remain on prednisone to try and keep her lungs clear but she then developed a skin issue caused by prednisone where all of her skin began to crust over. She was rushed into the care of our dermatologist Dr. Crow and we worked hard on trying to resolve that issue to make sure no matter what Sloan had good quality. Danielle said she was such a happy girl, loved life and wanted to be here and by golly we made it the best we could for as long as we could with persistent quality medical help.

Last night everything seemed to be just fine, around 5:00 pm she was twirling for her dinner and all was well. A couple of hours later she was found on her side eyes glazed over and unable to breathe. She was scooped up and rushed to the ER where she was placed in oxygen while we tried to figure out the problem. This morning the ER vet and Dr. Reno discussed what was found. Sloan had developed pyo and pus had escaped into her abdomen and she was septic. We knew there was absolutely no way that Sloan would survive surgery, she was in terrible pain and suffering. The ER vet told me even a healthy dog with healthy lungs would only have a 50% chance of surviving this surgery and the time was now to say goodbye to Sloan.

It was a gut wrenching morning for all of us but for Danielle and her family they have lost a family member, a loyal and loving little girl that deserved so much better than living outside in a dog run to produce puppies for the Canton Trade Days and being bitten by infected mosquitos to end her life so young.

Danielle sent us this update this morning. She has passed, it was very peaceful. They thought we might have to do it with her in the oxygen tank...but when they brought her to me, I held her and she calmed and her breathing evened out. She knew her mama was there! We were able to do it in the privacy of a room...she went peacefully.

We are so grateful that their family was willing to not only foster her but to love her and fill her life with the joy she had always deserved.

Our hearts are broken for them..

Sloan will be buried in the memorial garden and will be remembered and loved forever.

Thank you for loving this baby. She passed away knowing how loved she was and i am sure she loved you just as much. She is free now and not sick anymore. You sound like awesome people. I wish all.fur babies could have a family like Sloans.

This is heart wrenching to hear how this beautiful, sweet girl had to fight to have a normal, comfortable life because of heartless people who have no business having a dog, or any other animal for that matter. Thank you Danielle and Mike and your girls for showing her love and compassion, so she was able to experience feeling cherished, even if it was for too short of a time. My heart goes out to your family, as I know how empty you feel after losing a beloved pet, who was a part of family life. Know how much joy you gave her and that so many people who have never met you are grateful that you gave her happiness in the time she had with you❀️
