Dog of the Week!

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

It’s time now for another look at one of our favorite friends staying with us, this time, it’s Bella!

Bella is one of the most laid-back, relaxed, sweetest dogs we’ve ever seen. She practically walks around with a halo on her head! Bella had a rough start in life, she spent a lot of time in a shelter. She’s proof that you can find an amazing dog in a shelter, a dog that you can’t believe someone would let get away from them.

Bella is super lucky to have found a good home. A dog like her deserves the best life available, and we’re glad that there are people out there willing to give sheltered dogs a chance to come into their life.

Bella is also lucky to have escaped life in the shelter without any issues with other dogs. Sometimes dogs that spend time in shelters are afraid of other dogs, and they never get over it. Not Bella though. As much as she likes to come see us for some human affection, Bella loves playing with other dogs even more.

That’s it for now, see you next week!

Dog of the Week!

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Well, it’s been a bit longer than a week since our last Dog of the Week, but we’ve got a very special dog to show you this time. It’s Cleo!

Cleo is an Italian Greyhound. She’s very small and delicate, and when she first arrived here, she was very afraid of dogs and people. Other dogs made her nervous, she ran away from them, and generally didn’t want to interact with them at all. Cleo would run away from us too, even when we tried to pet her!

We also had a bit of a cold spell for a while, which is why she needed her coat. She was freezing!

Over the next few days, Cleo settled down quite a bit, and became more relaxed around the other dogs. She was starting to come up and say hello to us as well, but would run away when we tried to pet her or show her affection. Here she is relaxing by herself.

Now that Cleo has been with us for about a week, she’s doing MUCH better. She is first through the gate when we do evaluations, she’s not scared of the other dogs at all. She wants to meet them! And as far as affection with people goes, I think Cleo feels a bit better about that too. She likes to give people what we call the “Italian Greyhound Hug” which consists of rubbing her whole body on your face, and tucking her head into your neck. It’s adorable!

See you next week!

Dog(s) of the Week!

This week, we’d like you all to meet Sukhi and Lucy!

We’ve known them for a long time, they were the first dogs we ever evaluated!  Sukhi and Lucy are regular guests here, They’ve come to stay with us more times than anyone else, and we love having them with us. They really like playing with other dogs, but they’re also very close with each other. Sukhi and Lucy are the only dogs that we don’t confine separately for meals, because they won’t eat unless they’re together.

Sukhi is very outgoing and friendly. She always wants to come up and say hello, and enjoys playing with just about every other dog that stays with us. She also LOVES to swim and play in the pond, and she’s almost always soaking wet.

Lucy is a bit more reserved, but she still likes to play with other dogs. Lucy does stick pretty close to Sukhi though, and usually that’s how she ends up involved in play with other dogs.

Sukhi and Lucy can get pretty messy when they’re here, getting wet and rolling around in the grass. Their owners like them to go home beautiful, so they always get a fancy haircut right before they go home.

See you next week!

Dog of the Week!

Check out our new feature, the Dog of the Week!

Every week, we’ll pick out one dog staying with us, and tell you about them, how they’re doing, how they spend their time, who their friends are, etc.

This week, we picked a really fun dog to have around, Bella!

Like a lot of Labradors that stay with us, Bella likes to swim. In fact, about 30 seconds after she got here, Bella was completely soaked after jumping in the pond and swimming in circles. It’s clearly her absolute favorite thing to do while she’s here. She likes swimming so much, we had to fit her with one of our special unstained “Swimmer’s Collars” because our regular collars were turning her hair red!

That’s not all she spends her time doing though. She has lots of friends, and she’s very social. She’s also a sweetheart, and always comes to see us and wants some attention. Bella likes to jump up sometimes when she’s saying hello to some of us, so we’re correcting her for that. Bella’s soaking wet all the time from swimming, and nobody likes a greeting from a dog when it involves a wet shirt!

When he’s not sleeping, Bella’s best friend is Huxley, a Mastiff puppy. Yes, he’s a puppy. Huxley’s going to grow up to be GIGANTIC!

That’s all for Bella, come back next week to see our new Dog of the Week!
